Shilpa graduated as a dental Surgeon from the University of Birmingham in 2010. Since then she has worked across numerous hospitals in the West Midlands and the North West to attain further skills and knowledge across multiple dental specialities including oral surgery, special care dentistry and paediatric dentistry - all of which are closely linked to conscious sedation. She went on to achieve membership of the Joint Dental faculties (MJDF) from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a Certificate in conscious sedation.
Shilpa has a keen interest in Restorative dentistry and went on to complete a Masters degree in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics from the University of Manchester. She enjoys providing cosmetic treatments as well as rehabilitating patients with advanced oral diseases and firmly believes prevention is better than cure. She focuses on anxiety and pain management and works broadly across Manchester in the provision of dental conscious sedation for adults and children.
Shilpa is passionate about improving access to high quality dentistry for anxious patients and decided to set up a mobile sedation service locally in Manchester in 2014 to share her extensive experience of dental sedation. She has built and established a service, providing dental sedation to thousands of individuals across numerous locations. With a busy schedule she splits her time across private dental practice, mobile sedation and the Manchester Dental Hospital with an NHS role as a Restorative Speciality dentist. Here she focuses on treating adults with severe anxiety or complex medical conditions in the field of Special care Dentistry with an active role in training qualified dentists in conscious sedation.
She was appointed to the Board of the Society for the Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry (SAAD) in 2017, on which she served for five years, after becoming known for her widely used mobile sedation service ‘Dental Sedation Solutions’. She regularly lectures on sedation on several post graduate courses and mentors dentists through their sedation training as a STAC approved mentor. In 2023 she was nominated to the board of Association of Dental Anaesthetists and Sedationists , for which she is now the Vice chair.
She has a passion for dental education, committed to developing her own skills and keeping up to date with modern dental technologies to always provide the highest level of care with evidence based dentistry. Shilpa focuses conservative and preventative dentistry, providing a broad range of dental treatments for adults and children in a calm and relaxing manner. She is passionate about improving access to dental care for those who suffer with dental anxiety and has a natural calming quality her patients thoroughly value.
Outside of work Shilpa enjoys an active healthy lifestyle including travelling, hiking, scuba diving and swimming.
Munir qualified from The Royal London Hospital in 2002 and went on to complete my training as a Senior House Officer in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Kingston and St. Georges Hospitals.
During his various postings he was awarded The Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgeons, England. Furthermore, he has worked in both primary and secondary care and joined Kings College Hospital as a Specialty Doctor in Acute Dental Care.
Having had experience of such a wide array of the dental field, he finds it most rewarding when having the opportunity to help patients who have a fear or phobias. This led Munir to postgraduate training in Intra Venous/Oral/Inhalation (gas and air) sedation at the Eastman Dental Institute, where he now teaches postgraduate dentists in this field.
Munir works as our online hypnotherapist helping patients with complex anxieties, fears and phobia's and provide management so that his patients can overcome their barriers to dental care. He also works as a mobile seditionist in London and is also a Trust Dentist and Clinical Lecturer in Conscious Sedation at The Royal London Hospital. In addition to his formal training, Munir is qualified in providing acupuncture for the head and neck region and obtained a Medical Diploma in Clinical Hypnosis.
Dr Helen Kennedy MBChB (hons) BSc FRCA FHEA
Consultant Anaesthetist
Helen is a Consultant Anaesthetist who graduated from the University of Leeds in 2012 with a Bachelor's degree in Medicine and Surgery with honours, as well as an intercalated degree in International Health. She undertook her foundation medical training in the South Yorkshire deanery before relocating back to the North West to pursue her anaesthetic training.
Helen gained extensive anaesthetic experience through multiple hospitals within the North West where she developed her specialist interests, including undertaking advanced Regional Anaesthesia training at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust, and advanced Trauma and Resuscitation at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust. She obtained her Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2019.
Dr Kennedy has many educational roles, including teaching on an international regional anaesthesia course, lecturing at Manchester Medical School, and running the North West exam course for anaesthetic fellowship exams. She also teaches Advanced Life Support and Advanced Paediatric Life Support for the resuscitation council. She has multiple publications and has presented her work at international conferences.
She is passionate about safe sedation and regularly provides anaesthetic support for a range of surgical specialities using sedation, including spinal surgery, chronic pain, gastroenterology and dentistry. Helen is widely respected for her teamwork, communication, and dedication to patient care. She is consistently calm, approachable, and professional as reflected in patient and college feedback.
In her free time, Helen enjoys running and resistance training, and has a keen interest in winter sports. She is currently learning Spanish and enjoys long walks in the Peaks with her two black Labrador retrievers.
Dr Chris Goodman is a Consultant Anaesthetist, with special interests in paediatric anaesthesia, regional anaesthesia and sustainability in healthcare.
Chris studied medicine at The University of Dundee and graduated in 2009. He has since trained in Dundee, North Wales and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool looking after critically ill children. Chris was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2018 before completing his anaesthetic training.
Chris completed his anaesthetic training in the North West of England, working in many hospitals and gaining a wealth of experience and knowledge. He undertook advanced training in paediatric anaesthesia at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and completed advanced training in regional anaesthesia at Wrightington Hospital.
Chris has a vast portfolio with multiple journal publications, presentations at international conferences and extensive experience in medical education. Chris regularly teaches anaesthesia to anaesthetic trainees. He also teaches other healthcare professionals on Adult and Paediatric Life Support courses.
Chris’ specialist interests also include anaesthesia for oral surgery and dental procedures: including intravenous sedation and anaesthesia in paediatric and special care dentistry patients. Chris is passionate about his work and providing patients with the highest quality care. He has the ability to build rapport with both children and adults which is demonstrated by all his feedback.
In his spare time, Chris enjoys playing rugby, learning new languages, travelling and spending time with friends.
Dr Justin Roberts MBChB FRCA FFICM
Consultant in Anaesthesia and
Critical Care Medicine.
Justin studied medicine at The University of Manchester and graduated
in 2004. He has since trained in anaesthesia and intensive care
throughout the North West, obtaining the Fellowship of the Royal
College of Anaesthetics in 2009 and the Fellowship of Faculty of
Intensive Care Medicine in 2013. HE has a CCT in both specialities in
2013 and is on the GMC specialist register.
Justin spends half his time caring for the critically unwell on the
Intensive Care Unit and half his time providing sedation and
anaesthesia. Justin’s specialist anaesthetic interests include the
provision of sedation and anaesthesia to those with learning
difficulties and autism. Justin is particularly passionate about this
element of his work and ensuring patients receive the highest quality
and equitable care. Other interests include the provision of
anaesthesia for major elective and emergency surgery, in particular
Colorectal surgery.
In his spare time, Justin spends his time as an army medical
reservist, walking and spending time with his yellow lab, Specter..
Dr Gareth Kitchen MBChB, FRCA, PhD
Consultant Anaesthetist
Dr Gareth Kitchen is a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Manchester and Honorary Consultant Anaesthetist at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (Manchester Royal Infirmary and Trafford General).
Gareth studied medicine at the University of Manchester graduating in 2007. He completed anaesthetic training in the Northwest, gaining the Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (2012).
During his anaesthetic rotation Gareth was awarded a prestigious Clinical Research Training Fellowship (Medical Research Council). He completed a PhD at the University of Manchester, gaining expertise in biological rhythms and sleep. Gareth is currently funded by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) and is placed with industry working at the interface of industry and the NHS investigating the integration of wearable technology and Artificial Intelligence in to everyday medical care. Gareth always seeks to pursue the most up to date evidence and advances in clinical practice.
As a clinician at the MRI, Gareth is experienced at treating complex medical patients with a particular interest in anaesthesia for kidney transplantation, trauma, orthopaedics and sedation.
Gareth is experienced at providing sedation alongside regional anaesthesia for patients with complex medical conditions, covering a wide variety of interventional disciplines including orthopaedic surgery, GI endoscopy, dental, transplant vascular access and eye operations at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.
Gareth has a special interest in digital sedation and uses Virtual Reality headsets to aid his dental sedation, providing relaxation and digital hypnosis/sedation for people so that pharmacological sedation can be avoided altogether and also provide a positive environment particularly beneficial for needle phobic patients to facilitate cannulation.
Dr Paweł Arkuszynski MD (lekarz, Poland), FRCA equivalent (Specjalista anaestezjologii I intensywnej terapii – Poland)
Consultant Anaesthetist
Pawel graduated from Medical University in Lodz, Poland in 1995. He started training in anaesthesia and intensive care streight after a foundation year in 1996 and completed it in 2003 becoming a Specialist in anaesthesia and intensive care.
During his years in Poland Pawel developed a special interest in paediatric anaesthesia and paediatric and neonatal critical care. He moved to the UK in 2005 and started his UK career at The Pennine Hospital Trust as a middle grade anaesthetist at the Royal Oldham Hospital and Rochdale Infirmary. In 2007 Pawel was appointed as a consultant anaesthetist at The Christie NHS Foudation Trust in Manchester, where he has been providing anaesthetic and critical care services for cancer patients requiring complex multidisciplinary surgery and/or various kind of organ support during patients' oncological treatment at The Christie.
Pawel provides conscious sedation for patients undergoing chronic pain treatment procedures and interventional radiology procedures.
He provides single and multi-drug sedation for dentistry and oral surgery procedures for adults.
